Sharad Pawar, the ICC president, has said the Scotland Yard investigation into the charges against four Pakistan players is likely to end soon. Three of them are currently suspended from cricket and he said the suspension would be reviewed once the investigation was complete.
Pawar was speaking after a meeting at his New Delhi residence with the PCB chairman Ijaz Butt, who said he had not sought any leniency for the players. "As far as we are concerned, there is no tolerance at all", Butt said.
He also said he had raised the possibility of India and Pakistan resuming cricket ties, suspended following the terror attacks in Mumbai in 2008.
The visit was shrouded in secrecy, with neither side issuing any statement ahead of the meeting. While Pawar's office continued to maintain that there was no 'official' meeting lined up between Pawar and Butt, sources in the BCCI indicated that there were plans for an unofficial discussion.
The visit comes in the wake of the spot-fixing scandal, in which four Pakistani players have been questioned by Scotland Yard and three of them - Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt - have been suspended by the ICC.
